Coco Gauff will hope to defend her WTA Finals title at the 2025 tournament, which is set to begin on November 1.

Gauff defeated Iga Swiatek, Jessica Pegula and Aryna Sabalenka on her way to the final in 2024, before beating China’s Qinwen Zheng 3-6, 6-4, 7-6.

Gauff will return to the tournament in 2025, alongside Sabalenka, Swiatek, Pegula, Amanda Anisimova, Madison Keys, Jasmine Paolini and Elena Rybakina.

Gauff will be a strong contender to win the title once again this year, especially after her confidence-boosting triumph at the Wuhan Open.

However, two American former ATP players have selected a different US player as their favourite to win the title in Saudi Arabia.

Sam Querrey and Steve Johnson pick Amanda Anisimova to win the 2025 WTA Finals

Speaking on the Nothing Major podcast, former world number 11 Sam Querrey began the discussion by selecting Amanda Anisimova as his favourite to win the WTA Finals.

Former world number 21 Steve Johnson agreed with Querrey, also picking Anisimova to win a maiden WTA Finals title.

Querrey has also predicted that Anisimova will become the world number one in 2026.

Anisimova is certainly a strong contender for the title. The American has enjoyed a superb year on the WTA Tour, winning two WTA 1000 titles and reaching the final at both Wimbledon and the US Open.

However, both Jack Sock and John Isner disagreed with the picks of their co-hosts.

Isner, a former Miami Open champion, picked Coco Gauff to win her second consecutive title. Meanwhile, Jack Sock selected Italian star Jasmine Paolini to win her first crown at the event.

All you need to know about the WTA Finals

This year, the WTA Finals are set to run from November 1 to 8.

The eight players will be split into two groups of four, and they will contest three matches. For each match won in the group stage, a player will earn 200 WTA points.

The top two players in each group then advance to the semi-finals.

A semi-final win guarantees a player another 400 WTA points. The winner of the tournament receives a further 500 WTA points.

As an example, Coco Gauff won two of her three round robin matches at the 2024 WTA Finals, before winning her semi-final match, and the final.

As a result, Gauff won 1,300 points at the 2024 Finals.
