Russia announce men’s tennis squad for Tokyo Olympic Games

The Russian Tennis Federation have announced their team of four men’s players for the Olympic Games in Tokyo this summer.

A strong lineup has been selected, consisting of: world No. 2 Daniil Medvedev, world No. 8 Andrey Rublev, world No. 24 Karen Khachanov, and world No. 28 Aslan Karatsev. The women’s squad is yet to be finalised.

“The tournament’s (The French Open) announced postponement has no impact at all on our plans and preparations for the Olympic Games,” Russian Tennis Federation president Shamil Tarpishchev told TASS.

“Ranking lists are thoroughly studied after Roland-Garros to be used for the Olympic Games, however, it is all clear already about our teams.

“Our men’s roster (for the Tokyo Olympics) has already been announced and the tournament in France will have no impact on it. Our men’s team for Tokyo will comprise (Daniil) Medvedev, (Andrey) Rublev, (Karen) Khachanov and (Aslan) Karatsev.

“There are still some issues to be discussed about the women’s national team, but we get the picture on the whole.”

The Olympic tennis events are set to be held from July 24 – August 1. Due to sanctions imposed on the Russian Anti-Doping Agency by the World Anti-Doping Agency, approved Russian athletes are set to compete under ‘ROC’ – the acronym of the Russian Olympic Committee.
