Roger Federer confirms he will return in Geneva and play French Open


Roger Federer has announced that he will return to the tour at the Geneva Open in May, before playing the French Open.

The 20-time Grand Slam winner said he will use the time before then to train, meaning he will likely miss Masters 1000 clay court events in Madrid and Rome.

“Hi everyone! Happy to let you know that I will play Geneva and Paris,” Federer said on Twitter.

“Until then I will use the time to train. Can’t wait to play in Switzerland again.”

The 39-year-old Swiss returned to action at the Qatar Open in Doha in March – having not played since the 2020 Australian Open.

The Geneva Open ATP 250 will run from May 16 until May 22. The French Open will start two weeks later and be played from May 30 to June 13.

Roland Garros has been delayed by a week due to COVID lockdown restrictions in France to give the event the best chance of being held with fans.
