Redfoo from LMFAO makes pro tennis debut at 49

LMFAO’s Redfoo steps onto the professional tennis stage in Egypt, blending his musical fame with a lifelong passion for the sport.

Stefan Kendal Gordy, better known as Redfoo from the musical duo LMFAO, has transitioned from global music stages to the professional tennis circuit. At 49, Redfoo made his professional debut under his birth name in an ITF M15 tournament in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. Facing Norway’s Leyton Rivera, ranked 1,299th globally, Redfoo secured one game before concluding the match with a 6-1, 6-0 loss. Reflecting on the experience, he shared a highlight on Instagram, stating, “I lost the match but this was my best point. Good match and good luck Leyton.”

Before his music career, Redfoo was a promising tennis player in his youth but shifted focus after a wrist injury. His passion for tennis remained evident through his relationship with former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka, whom he dated from 2012 to 2014. He was a frequent presence in her player box during major tournaments, including the US Open and Australian Open.

This follows his previous attempts in professional tennis, including participation in the USA F30 Futures in 2016, Redfoo’s recent endeavor in Egypt shows his enduring commitment to tennis, demonstrating that it’s never too late to pursue one’s passions.

Inside the Baseline…

Chasing a dream on the professional circuit is no small feat, and stepping onto the court at 49 makes it an even bolder endeavor. The transition from global stardom in music to the grind of competitive tennis is a stark contrast, but passion knows no boundaries. Playing 15k’s in Egypt is quite a grind, so the love and passion for the game must be there. Whether the journey is about competition, personal fulfillment, or simply proving that it’s never too late, the effort itself is worth noticing.
