Tomas Berdych avoided an upset as he moved into the third round with a 7-6(6) 6-4 6-2 victory over Germany's Daniel Brands. The Czech No.7 seed fired 55 winners as he set up a third-round clash with Kevin Anderson. “Somebody’s going to give me something for free? No. Everybody wants to beat me," Berdych said.
Juan Martin Del Potro also progressed unscathed as he stormed past Jesse Levine 6-2 7-6(7) 6-3. "I am trying to go far but all the matches are difficult," the Argentine said. "The top guys are going out and it's a very high level of tennis, now I will focus on my third round."
Grigor Dimitrov will be hoping to be Del Potro's opponent in the third round. The Bulgarian will return to court on Friday against Grega Zemlja with the match finely poised in the fifth set. Dimitrov will be serving to stay in the match trailing 9-8 in the decider.
Maria Sharapova's Wimbledon campaign may be over but the Russian was in the stands to support boyfriend Dimitrov on Court 3.
Dominika Cibulkova stormed into the third round with a resounding 6-0 6-1 victory over Spain's Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor. The Slovakian will face No.11 seed Roberta Vinci in the last 32.
