Rafael Nadal: ‘I am sad to announce I won’t be playing in Miami’
Rafael Nadal has announced he has withdrawn from the Miami Open later this month as he continues to battle his back injury.
Nadal suffered the injury at the start of the year and it forced him to miss Spain’s entire ATP Cup campaign.
He was able to manage it throughout the Australian Open, but lost out in the quarterfinals to Stefanos Tsitsipas despite establishing a two set lead.
He sad he was close to accepting a wild card for Dubai this week, but now it has been confirmed that we won’t see him until the clay season.
“Sad to announce that I won’t be playing in Miami, a city that I love,” Rafael Nadal said on social media.
Sad to announce that I won’t be playing in Miami, a city that I love. I need to fully recover and get ready for the clay court season in Europe. Special message to my fans in the US and in particular to the great Spanish speaking community FL who always give me a great support!💪🏻
