Rafa Nadal says ‘the competition takes a back seat’ as Spain’s Davis Cup hopes suffer huge setback
Rafa Nadal, Spain’s greatest ever Davis Cup player, is trying to keep things in perspective after the dramatic withdrawal of their most in form player from this year’s Davis Cup finals.
Young superstar Carlos Alcaraz has had to withdraw from the Spanish Davis Cup finals squad due to a positive COVID-19 test with Rafa Nadal trying to keep a lid on the disappointment by wishing the team well and making sure everyone remembers that good health is more important in these challenging times.
Nadal took to Twitter to express his disappointment but to encourage the team that he isn’t part of this year due to his own recovery from a foot injury.
Nadal said, “Much encouragement to the entire Spanish team after the news we received today. When something like this happens, the competition takes a back seat. The most important thing is health and I hope there are no more cases. A hug to all!”
