“Rafa Nadal has been so greedy” Djokovic and Federer are better than they look according to former British No.1
Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer have excellent records on clay courts but they are made to look bad on that surface because Rafa Nadal has won so much, explains Tim Henman
Rafa Nadal has won the French Open 12 times whereas Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic only have 1 title each in Paris, so fans might think they aren’t as good on that surface. However, because Nadal has won so many people forget that Federer has been in 4 French Open finals, losing to Nadal each time, whilst Novak Djokovic has been in 3 finals, losing to Nadal twice and Wawrinka once. So if Nadal hadn’t been playing there is a good chance that Federer would have 5 French Open titles instead of one and Djokovic would have 3 or 4 French open titles instead of just one.
Henman, who is working for Eurosport throughout the tournament, was asked what he thought about Novak Djokovic matching Rafa Nadal’s record of 14 quarter finals at Roland Garros when he said, “Because Nadal has been so greedy and has won so many Roland-Garros titles there are other people where you think ‘clay isn’t such a good surface’. Federer I think you put in that category as well because he’s been in so many Roland-Garros finals but Nadal has won so many. Djokovic again showing how consistent he is.”
