Emma Raducanu moves from Roland Garros to Wimbledon practice

Emma Raducanu kicks off Wimbledon preparation with ‘first steps’ on grass

Emma Raducanu has shared her first steps onto the hallowed lawns of Wimbledon in 2022 as she begins preparations for her home Slam.

Just four days ago, the 19-year-old Brit was dumped out of Roland Garros by world number 47 Aliaksandra Sasnovich as her Roland Garros debut ended in the second round.

While Raducanu received praise for her attitude on the clay and beyond, the US Open champion must be excited to return to the grass.

Posting to her Instagram story, Raducanu wrote: “First steps onto this, hello pretty.”

The caption accompanied video of her striding onto grass before panning to reveal that she is training on the practice courts of Wimbledon, with the roof of Court No 1 visible in the background.

A little less than a year ago, a 338th ranked Raducanu entered Wimbledon with a wildcard and a dream to win big at SW19.

She then took the British crowds with her on a thrilling journey as she won her first three matches all in straight sets to reach the fourth round.

The youngster even downed 2019 Roland Garros finalist Marketa Vondrousova in the middle of those three victories.

Her magical run came to an unfortunate end as Raducanu was forced to retire due to breathing problems, but the British public were already enraptured by the teenage talent.

The world number 12 has been struggling for form in 2022 as she looks to fully adjust to life on the WTA tour.

The familiarity of being back in the UK on a surface she knows well should give Raducanu at least the plus of playing from a place of comfort.
