Queen’s to host Davis Cup tie

The tie will take place in West London on July 17-19, just 26 days after the club hosts the Aegon Championships.

"Queen's will be a perfect venue for our quarter-final match against France," said British No.1 Andy Murray. "I've been playing at Queen's for 10 years now so I feel very at home there, as do the rest of the British team, so it's a great choice."

James Ward, whose memorable five-set victory over John Isner helped Leon Smith’s team reach the quarter-finals for a second consecutive year with 3-2 win over United States in Glasgow last month, said the grass courts were the ideal venue.

"We all think that Queen's is a great choice for Davis Cup," said Ward. "Andy has won the tournament three times, I got to the semi-finals a few years ago and the doubles guys have done well there too, so it feels very natural for us to want to play Davis Cup at a venue where we all feel very comfortable."

Great Britain boasts a 11-9 lead in the head-to-head record against France, but last year’s finalists have won the last two ties 5-0. Britain’s last victory against France came on the clay at Roland Garros in 1978.

Victory over France would see Britain reach the Davis Cup semi-finals for the first time since 1981, with either Australia or Kazakhstan their opponents.
