‘I’m prepared for that day’ – Serena Williams reveals she ‘has a plan’ ready for retirement

Serena Williams is “prepared” for her retirement as she revealed she “definitely plans to have more kids” and “wants to be the best mother and wife” she can be.

23-time Grand Slam legend Serena Williams hasn’t played since Wimbledon last June as she has been occupied with other commitments, namely being a mother to her daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. and her numerous business ventures.

According to Forbes, Serena currently has a total of 20 corporate partners and investments in 66 start-ups.

Serena was forced to withdraw from her Wimbledon first round match against Aliaksandra Sasnovich after a hamstring injury. This injury ruled her out for the rest of the season and saw her miss the US Open and the Australian Open.

As a result of her absence, the former World number one has dropped to 247th in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) world rankings.

She had been chasing an elusive 24th Grand Slam title that would put her equal with Margaret Court’s all time record. However, many famed analysts and experts have claimed such a feat may prove to be too much.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Serena said “I am prepared for that day, I’ve been prepared for that day for over a decade.

“So, I’ve always – if you’ve seen King Richard [the newly-released biopic about father, Richard Williams] – you know that my dad always said you got to prepare, so I’ve been prepared for that.

“At the end of the day, I think it’s really important to always have a plan and that’s kind of what I did. I always had a plan,” Serena revealed.

“It is a balancing act and some days it’s harder than the others. It was definitely more tough because I’m still a mom and I’m still a wife and I want to be able to spend time and I like to be good at things.

“I want to be the best mom and I just have a wonderful team around me. … There are days that are overwhelming … but I’m just like, okay, I just got to like, figure it out and just make it work.”

She also shared that she intends to have more children in the future, saying “I definitely want to have more kids, it’s just balance is key and [I’m] just trying to find that balance.

“I don’t know, it’s always like, okay, are we ready? And I know the clock is ticking so I’m just like okay, I need to figure out when that’s going to be, but hopefully soon when I will feel no pressure.”
