‘Playing Roger on this court is a dream come true’ – Hurkacz pays respects

Hubert Hurkacz defeated Roger Federer in straight sets to reach his first Grand Slam semi-final at 2021 Wimbledon Championships.

The Pole beat the 20-time Major champion 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 on Centre Court at The All England Club.

Although Federer was way from his best, struggling with his time and movement throughout, Hurkacz produced the performance of his life to claim a career best win. The second set looked to be heading the way of Federer as he led 4-1, but the Pole battled back to force a tie-break and served excellently to take complete control of the match.

The 39-year-old had won their only meeting back at Indian Wells in 2019. Hurkacz was honoured to share Centre Court with Federer at Wimbledon.

“I don’t know what to say, this is super special for me. Playing on this special court against Roger is a dream come true.

“Playing here in front of you guys, the special things he has done here throughout his career so as I say it’s a dream come true, thank you guys for coming out.”

Hurkacz will face the winner of Matteo Berrettini and Felix Auger-Aliassime, two players that are also competing to feature in their first Grand Slam semi-final.

“I am super proud to be here and reach my first semi-final. Playing here on grass is super special, I am very happy and can’t wait for the next one.”
