‘Playing for your country is a special feeling,’ says Andrey Rublev

Andrey Rublev says representing his country is a ‘special feeling’ as the Russian gears up for his debut appearance at the Olympic Games.

The world No. 7 will feature in Tokyo as part of a Russian team full of stars including Daniil Medvedev, Karen Khachanov and Aslan Karatsev.

Despite making his Olympics debut later this month, Rublev has plenty of experience on the national stage, including an instrumental role in Russian’s ATP Cup victory earlier this year.

“I have never played them (the Olympic Games), so for sure it’s going to be a special moment for me,” the 23-year-old told the ITF.

“It’s amazing, for two or three weeks the whole world will be watching all sports everyday. This is what makes the world more together.

“When you play matches for your country it is always a different feeling because you are not only playing for you, you’re playing for your team and your country and it is always a more special feeling. It’s different.”
