Petrova, who is recovering from a stress reaction injury on her right foot, battled back at Ponte Vedra Beach after dropping the opening set and trailing 4-1 in the second.

However, the Russian was eventually worn down by the 21-year-old Canadian, who ripped 35 winners in a match that lasted just over two hours.

“She played really well. I’ve never seen anybody paint more lines that she did today,” said Petrova of her opponent.

Wozniak will attempt to win only the second title of her career when she takes on second seed Caroline Wozniacki in the final.

The Danish teenager dropped the opening set against Elena Vesnina of Russia but fought back to win a marathon encounter 2-6 6-3 7-6 (7/4) in two hours and 43 minutes.
