The International Tennis Federation announced on Wednesday that their Davis Cup committee had voted to award hosting rights instead to the Philippines. The tie will take place from July 10-12.

“The ITF has informed the Pakistan Tennis Federation and the Philippine Tennis Association that, due to security concerns, Pakistan will lose choice of ground for the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Asia/Oceania Group II semi-final tie between the two nations on 10-12 July,” said an ITF statement.

“The Davis Cup Committee voted to reverse choice of ground for this tie and award it to the Philippines, based upon existing advice from the ITF’s security consultants.”

The decision comes two weeks after terrorists attacked the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore as they travelled to play a Test match. Eight people were killed and seven members of the team were injured in the attack.

Pakistan have the right to appeal against the committee’s decision.
