Overjoyed Juan Martin del Potro announces return to tennis after heartbreaking injury

Juan Martin del Potro is at last able to hit the practise courts again after another horrible injury forced him back to hospital for yet another operation

It was during his first match at the Queen’s Club Fever Tree Championships in London on June 22nd that Juan Martin del Potro suffered a fractured right patella. Amazingly he had carried on playing that match and was able to beat against Dennis Shapovalov but then realised he had suffered the injury and immediately pulled out of his second round match and underwent surgery followed by a lengthy recuperation.

Now he’s taken to Twitter to post an upbeat video showing him practising his tennis again, albeit rather gingerly as he obviously looks to take things slowly in this latest comeback

‘Delpo’ has been as high as No.3 in the ATP rankings and famously won the 2009 US Open, one of the only players to win a major during the dominant years of Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and Murray.

Before this latest injury Del Potro had been playing his way back into form after his previous injury setback when he’d dropped down to No. 1045 in the rankings.

He is now targeting a return to competitive tennis at the Stockholm and Vienna ATP tournaments in October.
