‘Only Nick Kyrgios confuses Stefanos Tsitsipas’ declares Greek’s mother
Stefanos Tsitsipas is not in his right mind when facing Nick Kyrgios according to his mother Julia Sergeyevna Apostoli.
The rivalry between the two came to a head in the third round of this year’s Wimbledon. In an highly charged atmosphere under the Court One roof, Tsitsipas and Kyrgios did battle over four sets that saw a number of controversial moments for the umpire to contend with.
“The only person who confuses Stefanos is Nick Kyrgios,” Apostoli said according to the Greek City Times. “He is the only one who brings him out of himself,”
“In the Wimbledon match, Kyrgios decided to ignore the general rules of sports. The match became very strange and nervous because he was playing ‘dirty’ tennis.
“Stefanos doesn’t play like that. He completely lost his temper due to the behaviour of his opponent and lost the match without being any worse on the court.”
Stefanos Tsitsipas was not entirely faultless in the contest with Kyrgios. After losing the second set the Greek launched a ball into the crowd, hitting a spectator after the ball deflected off a wall.
Kyrgios demanded that Tsitsipas be defaulted for the act, but no such punishment occurred. Kyrgios came out the victor 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7). He leads the duo’s head-to-head 4-1, his only loss coming at the 2021 Laver Cup.
Stefanos Tsitsipas received a warning for smacking the ball into the crowd… but Nick Kyrgios says he should’ve been defaulted 😳
