‘One of the favorites’ – Toni Nadal picks Carlos Alcaraz ahead of French Open

Former coach and Uncle to Rafel Nadal, Toni Nadal has labelled teen sensation Carlos Alcaraz as “one of the favourites” for Roland Garros glory.

The 19-year-old Alcaraz has been in red hot form this season as the man from Murcia claimed his first ever ATP 500 title at the Rio Open and then followed up the victory by winning the Miami Masters, where the young Spaniard became the youngest ever Miami Open champion and third youngest Masters-level winner in history.

His scintillating form also continued into the clay court season as the teenager tasted even more success to claim his fourth career title at the Barcelona Open.

The Spaniard’s career hit new heights as he won the Madrid Masters defeating Alexander Zverev, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic en-route to his second career Masters 1000 title, reaching a new career high of number six in the ATP rankings.

Reflecting on the recent success’s of Carlos Alcaraz, Uncle Toni has backed the young Spaniard for a deep run at this month’s French Open, stating he is “one of the main favourites.”

In a recent interview, the current coach of Felix Auger-Aliassime told reporters, “We have many years left of a great Alcaraz. I already said that he was the best positioned to replace players like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, who are already 40, 35 and 34 years old.

“He will be one of the favourites at Roland Garros. We have many years left to enjoy Carlos.”

The 61-year-old continued to heap praise on the fellow Spaniard saying that he “has it all.”

“Alcaraz has been demonstrating his potential in each tournament he participates in, in which he would highlight the speed with which he manages to generate power in each of his shots.

“It is impressive, but apart from that, a very complete tennis player, very fast, practically plays very well, and has it all. There was already talk of Alcaraz when he was little, and a few years ago, his manager decided that he should continue with [Juan Carlos] Ferrero. And it has been a good success because he has continued to improve. What he promised then is being fulfilled.”
