Novak Djokovic has been given a potential setback ahead of Wimbledon this year.
Djokovic lost to Joao Fonseca in the third round of Roland Garros this year, as his wait for an elusive 25th Grand Slam continued.
Despite this disappointment, Wimbledon is seen as Djokovic’s best chance to win a Grand Slam title now at 39 years old.
Djokovic is not playing any grass court tournaments before Wimbledon this year, and therefore he has now dropped in the rankings.

Novak Djokovic falls to his lowest ranking in four years
The first week of the grass court season saw Ben Shelton win the title in Stuttgart, while Alex de Minaur was beaten in the final by Kamil Majchrzak in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
Despite this, there has actually only been one movement in the top 10 of the ATP rankings, with Daniil Medvedev climbing up to world number seven.
Djokovic dropped three places down to world number seven after Roland Garros, and now he has dropped even further down to number eight.
This is Djokovic’s lowest ranking since November 2022, with both Taylor Fritz and Flavio Cobolli also closing in on him.
However, as Medvedev is defending points from reaching the final in Halle last year, Djokovic could swap places with the Russian once again.
| ATP Rankings | Ranking Points |
| 1. Jannik Sinner | 13,500 |
| 2. Carlos Alcaraz | 9,960 |
| 3. Alexander Zverev | 7,190 |
| 4. Felix Auger-Aliassime | 4,390 |
| 5. Ben Shelton | 4,070 |
| 6. Alex de Minaur | 4,060 |
| 7. Daniil Medvedev (+1) | 3,810 |
| 8. Novak Djokovic (-1) | 3,760 |
| 9. Taylor Fritz | 3,635 |
| 10. Flavio Cobolli | 3,540 |
What does Novak Djokovic’s new ranking mean for Wimbledon?
Djokovic’s ranking could be significant for his chances at Wimbledon this year, as it will impact where he is seeded.
Regardless of what happens at Queen’s and the Halle Open this week, Djokovic is confirmed to stay between seven and nine in the ATP rankings.
Novak Djokovic is the tennis GOAT… Prove us wrong
World number two Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from Wimbledon this year, so Djokovic will definitely be a top eight seed.
However, as Djokovic has dropped outside the top four seeds, it means that he could play any of the top four from the quarter-final stage, including Jannik Sinner.
Djokovic has already won seven Wimbledon titles and he will be looking to win an eighth at SW19 this year, with the grass court major beginning on June 29.
