Novak Djokovic withdraws from the ATP Finals due to ‘ongoing injuries’
Novak Djokovic has announced that he will not be playing the ATP Finals this year, despite qualifying for the year-end tournament once again.
Djokovic was set to participate in a 17th ATP Finals event in Turin this year, which would equal the record of appearances with Roger Federer.
However, the Serbian has now revealed that he will not be competing at the event later this week, bringing an end to his 2024 season.
“It’s quite an honor to qualify for the @nittoatpfinals in Turin,” Djokovic said on Instagram. “I was really looking forward to being there, but due to ongoing injury I won’t be playing next week. Apologies to those who were planning to see me. Wishing all the players a great tournament. See you soon!”
Djokovic had previously admitted that tournaments like the ATP Finals are no longer a priority to him, but after reaching the Shanghai Masters was in a position to qualify for the event for a seventh consecutive season.
This withdrawal means that the 2024 ATP Finals lineup is now complete, with Casper Ruud, Alex de Minaur and Andrey Rublev taking those final three spots.
They will join Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev and Taylor Fritz at the ATP Finals in Turin, that get underway on Sunday 10th November.

Inside the baseline…
This announcement should not be a huge shock to anyone, as Novak Djokovic had already warned us that he may not be playing the ATP Finals this year. Whether the withdrawal is mainly down to the suggested injuries or lack of motivation to play these events anymore is unclear, but it will be very interesting to see how Djokovic’s 2025 season goes. Although Djokovic has not won a major title this year, he has still claimed that elusive Olympic title and still qualified for the ATP Finals, despite playing less than his rivals, so it has not been too bad in the grand scheme of things.
