Novak Djokovic withdraws from Miami Open: ‘I decided to spend time with my family’

World number one Novak Djokovic has pulled out of the Miami Masters to fulfil his promise to spend more time with his family.

After Djokovic claimed the record for most weeks at world number one, he said he would now reduce his schedule to give more time to his family.

And, true to his word, that is exactly what he has done.

“Dear fans, I’m very sorry to announce that this year I won’t travel to Miami to compete,” Novak Djokovic said on social media

“I decided to use this precious time at home to stay with my family. With all restrictions, I need to find balance in my time on tour and at home.

“I look forward to coming back next year!”

Djokovic’s decision means none of the big three will be at Miami with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer already pulling out, as has world number four Dominic Thiem.

Assuming there are no more withdrawals, Daniil Medvedev will be the top seed with Stefanos Tsitsipas number two.

It shouldn’t hard Djokovic in terms of ranking though, with him dropping just 45 points.
