‘Novak Djokovic is angry’ heading into Wimbledon says former British number one
Former British number one Greg Rusedski has claimed that former world number one Novak Djokovic was ‘hurt by the way he went out to Rafa in the French Open’.
The world number three has had a an extremely difficult season so far, with the Serbian being forced to miss the ‘Sunshine Double’ events as well as the Australian Open due to his vaccination status.
In addition, Djokovic also suffered a disappointing result at the Monte Carlo Masters as well as losing in his home city in the final of the Serbia Open to world number eight Andrey Rublev.
Despite winning the Rome Masters for a record-extending 38th Masters title win, Djokovic fell short in the hunt for a 21st Grand Slam title as he lost to eventual champion Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals of the French Open. Former world number four Greg Rusedski believes that this loss would have hurt Djokovic.
Speaking in a recent interview, the 48-year-old Rusedski claimed that the Serb “is angry” as he has not won a Slam this year.
“The problem you have is, you have players who have the potential but winning is a totally different thing.
“Making the finals is one thing, but you have to have this mindset that’s absolutely insane these days because of the big three or four we’ve had over the generations.
“Djokovic is angry because he hasn’t won a slam this year and the way he went out to Rafa in the French Open will have hurt him. Rafa’s trying to go for the calendar slam. He wouldn’t be showing up if his foot wasn’t 100 per cent and he was ready to go and Berrettini has been by far the best.
“Hurkacz is a guy who can go deep – semis or final – but win? Not with those three. Those three guys at the moment have separated themselves from the pack.”
