Novak Djokovic: ‘I will kick Carlos Alcaraz’s butt for as long as I can’
Novak Djokovic believes Carlos Alcaraz will be the new force in the ATP, but he has vowed to ‘kick his butt’ to make him earn his spot at tennis’ top table.
Djokovic has dominated the ATP for more than a generation alongside rivals Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, with the trio rewriting just about all of the game’s records.
Many believe those records are now unbreakable, with any player now needing to win more than 20 majors to even get close to toppling the big three.
Alcaraz has already started on that trail having win the US Open and reached world number one, but Djokovic says he intends to make things as tough as he can for the young Spaniard.
“As difficult as it looks for all of these records that we have made to be broken, I think it is always possible,” Novak Djokovic told Eurosport.
“Alcaraz definitely looks like somebody who has the intention to dominate the game in the years to come.
“So I think it is good that there are some new faces, but I will not give up. I will make sure I kick their butts for as long as I possibly can! They will kick my butt sometimes maybe, but hopefully, less than I kick theirs.”
