Novak Djokovic faces potential Dominic Thiem match-up in Belgrade

World number one Novak Djokovic is set continue his comeback at the Serbia Open, with a potential third round clash with the Dominic Thiem on the cards.

Djokovic has had an extremely turbulent season so far, with him only competing in two tournaments after he was forced to miss the ‘Sunshine Double’ events as well as the Australian Open due to his vaccination status. However, his main priority now will be looking to return to full fitness and form ahead of his Roland Garros title defence at the end of May.

After crashing out of the Monte Carlo Masters in his first match in 47 days, Novak Djokovic is set to return home to Belgrade to compete in the Serbian Open. It will be the sixth time in his ATP career that he will compete in his home city of Belgrade, looking to seek a fourth tour-level title in his native city.

His opening round match will be an all-Serbian affair as he is set to face either Hamad Medjedovic or Laslo Djere.

One potential opponent for the World number one is in-form countryman Miomir Kecmanovic in the third round. However, notably Djokjovic’s path could also collide with the former world number three Dominic Thiem.

Thiem is set for his first ATP tour action since his wrist injury in June of last year. The Austrian, who missed out on the Monte Carlo Masters due to a positive Covid test, is set to play Australia’s John Millman in the opening round and could face either Kecmanovic or Richard Gasquet in the second.
