Novak Djokovic crushes David Goffin to reach 9th Wimbledon semi final

Despite a testing first set, Novak Djokovic went on to make light work of 21st seed David Goffin in today’s quarter final.

Winning 6-4 6-0 6-2, Djokovic advanced to his ninth Wimbledon semi final and has set up the chance to appear in his sixth final.

Making his first appearance in a Wimbledon quarter final, David Goffin was quick out of the blocks on Centre Court. The Serbian Djokovic was forced to save two break points on serve at 1-1. And at 3-3 the Belgian got the break that he needed after a forehand passing shot from the Novak Djokovic racket was sent wide. However from here it all went downhill for 28 year old Goffin.

Djokovic broke serve straightaway, before holding serve and watching a wide forehand from Goffin allowed him to win a third consecutive game and take the first set 6-4.

The start of the second set was not any more joyous then the end of the first for the Belgian. Some great net play from Novak Djokovic, followed a mishit long forehand from Goffin allowed the world number one two breaks of serve to take a 4-0 lead. And this was followed up be a staggering fifth consecutive break from the four time champion at SW19 who won the set without the loss of any game.

23rd ranked Goffin showed a few signs of a resurgence at the beginning of the third set, forcing Djokovic to save two break points in his opening service game. The former world number 7 was then able to hold ending a streak of ten consecutive games for the man from Belgrade, levelling the third set 1-1. Djokovic was in no mood to be held up though.

A Goffin double fault put the number one seed a break ahead to gain a 3-1 lead, and despite having to defend more break points on his next service game, at 5-2 Djokovic broke again to win the third set 6-2 and take his place in the Wimbledon semi-final after a relatively straightforward day at the office.

In the semi final Djokovic will be favourite to make the final, against either Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut or Guido Pella who are both in their first Wimbledon quarter finals.
