Jannik Sinner became just the second man to win the Sunshine Double and the Monte-Carlo Masters by defeating Carlos Alcaraz.
Sinner and Alcaraz played in difficult conditions in Monte-Carlo, but the Italian was able to win the match in straight sets.
The Italian not only became the new world number one, but he also matched Novak Djokovic’s record of winning the first three Masters events of the year.
After emulating the 24-time Grand Slam champion, Djokovic took to Instagram to congratulate Sinner on his achievement.

Novak Djokovic’s message to Jannik Sinner
Sinner immediately took to Instagram to bask in his new success of becoming a Monte-Carlo Masters champion for the first time.

Is Jannik Sinner now the best server on the ATP Tour?
He won 18 points in a row on serve vs Jiri Lehecka…
His beaten opponent, Alcaraz, graciously wrote: “Well deserved Jannik.” while Coco Gauff sent applauding emojis.
Sinner’s Italian compatriot, Fabio Fognini, who retired from tennis in 2025, also made a joke with his former teammate.
It was time… At least you won a tournament like mine,” joked Fognini before adding a complimentary: “BRAVO.”
Sinner now only has the Madrid Open and the Italian Open to win before he achieves a clean sweep at Masters events.
Jannik Sinner has now overtaken a Carlos Alcaraz record
Sinner’s victory against Alcaraz ensured that he would spend at least one more week at the top of the ATP Tour rankings.
The week at the top of the rankings is his 67th cumulative week at the summit of the ATP Tour, which has seen him overtake Alcaraz.
Will Jannik Sinner complete the Career Grand Slam at Roland Garros this year? 🤔
If not, who do you think will win Roland Garros?
Alcaraz’s latest run saw him clock up to 66 weeks as world number one in his career, so Sinner now has another accolade over his Spanish rival.
Out of all of the active players on the ATP Tour, Djokovic is the only player to have spent longer at the top of the rankings.
The Serbian icon has spent a combined 153 weeks at the top of the ATP Tour rankings in his glittering career.
