Nick Kyrgios balances ball on head US Open 2019

Nick Kyrgios supports Roger Federer in spat with umpire followed by tetchy reaction in press conference

Nick Kyrgios, the much penalised bad boy of tennis, has come out in vocal support of Roger Federer after the Swiss player refused to answer a question in a heated press conference

Nick Kyrgios is more acquainted than most with the wrath of the tennis authorities and he has been known to react when umpires enforce penalties against him during a match, so maybe it’s no surprise that he would use social media to back Roger Federer after an on court penalty lead to a frosty answer from the great Swiss champion in his post match press conference.

Kyrgios tweeted his support for Federer in a mocking fashion implying that the press were always trying looking for negatives in an effort to earn more money from the story.

Federer had received a code violation followed by a point penalty for twice hitting balls in anger into the crowd during his 3 set defeat to Alexander Zverev in last weeks quarter final of the shanghai Masters. Federer was then pressed in interview about why he subsequently argued with the umpire to which Federer refused to answer the question and shot back at the journalist saying he was only asking the question to get a good line for his Twitter page.

Nick Kyrgios is currently a serving a 16 week suspended ban from the ATP Tour due to consistent ‘aggravated behaviour’ after committing eight offences during a match with Karen Khachanov, including verbally abusing umpire Fergus Murphy and spitting towards the official.
