Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis will not be playing singles at the Australian Open, but they have signed up for the doubles tournament.

The Australian pair won the entire event in 2022 to lift the only Grand Slam of their careers to date in front of a rapturous home crowd.

Kyrgios and Kokkinakis have both suffered injury issues over the years, but they are fit enough to reignite their doubles success.

The Australian Open doubles draw has been made and Kyrgios and Kokkinakis have finally learned their first round opponents.

Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis set for all-Australian first round clash

Kyrgios and Kokkinakis have received a wild card for the event and they will face another wild card pair in the first round.

Marc Polmans and Jason Kubler will face Kyrgios and Kokkinakis in the first round, which will no doubt split the crowd in Melbourne.

Polmans is a former Australian Open semi-finalist in the doubles, after reaching the final four in 2017 alongside Andrew Whittington.

Kubler, meanwhile, went two steps further and actually won the Australian Open doubles title in 2023 with Rinky Hijikata.

The first round clash between the Australians will boast three former Australian Open champions, and will likely be one of the star attractions of the whole event.

Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis could play British pair in the third round

Kyrgios and Kokkinakis’ tough draw will not end with Kubler and Polmans, as they’ve been drawn in the same section as the number one seeds.

The Australian pair could play Great Britain’s Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool in round three, which will arguably be the biggest test of the entire tournament.

Cash and Glasspool have been on a terrific run of form over the past year, which culminated in a homecoming win at Wimbledon in 2025.

Glasspool and Cash also made their Davis Cup debut for Great Britain in 2025 and reached the semi-finals of the ATP Finals.
