Nick Kyrgios will play his first competitive action for 10 months after receiving a wild card for the Brisbane International.

Kyrgios is on the hunt for an Australian Open wild card, but he will likely have to perform well at the Brisbane International.

The Australian will play singles and doubles at the event, where he will re-form his successful partnership with Thanasi Kokkinakis.

Ahead of his return to competitive tennis, Kyrgios has provided an update on his fitness after he competed in two exhibition events in December.

Nick Kyrgios says he is ‘feeling good’ ahead of Brisbane

Kyrgios played the World Tennis League in India, as well as his Battle of the Sexes match against Aryna Sabalenka.

Despite his stacked schedule, Kyrgios has been positive about how his body is holding up ahead of the Brisbane International.

“I’m feeling as good as possible I think, considering how much trouble I’ve had the last month and how much tennis I’ve played.

“This is as good as I could feel. I’ve literally had this sport in the palm of my hand for the last couple of years.

Kyrgios then hinted at his chances of receiving an Australian Open wild card at the end of the month.

“Pretty much every move I make, it’s always commented on. I just want to get through this and be happy with my performance. Whatever AO brings, AO brings. That’s two weeks away.”

Kyrgios will play Aleksandar Kovacevic in the first round in Brisbane, with a potential meeting with Britain’s Cameron Norrie in the second round.

What Nick Kyrgios needs to do to earn an Australian Open wild card

It’s no surprise that the Australian Open is debating whether to give Kyrgios a wild card, as he is one of the most popular players in tennis – especially in Australia.

However, Kyrgios’ lack of competitive action is a real worry and a poor showing at the Australian Open could cause a backlash.

Kyrgios will likely need to perform well at the Brisbane International, which means winning at least two matches at the tournament.

The Australian only won one competitive match during 2025, when he beat Mackenzie McDonald in the first round of the Miami Open.
