The former Davis Cup captain, who has been in the job for two years, will continue to work for the LTA on a number of projects including reviewing and enhancing the international competitive structure in Britain.

LTA player director Steven Martens, Tim Henman’s former coach Paul Annacone and Leon Smith, the former coach of British number one Andy Murray, will become responsible for men’s tennis.

Chief executive Roger Draper said: “Paul has been a tremendous asset to British tennis throughout his career and over the last two years has developed strong foundations for men’s tennis.

“Paul came on board in 2006 to help a new team understand the intricacies of our sport and having achieved this he will turn his attention to helping in other areas.

“Paul has put in place an excellent team of coaches and under the guidance of Steven Martens I am confident that we will be able to continue the work that Paul has begun and make real strides forward in this area.

“Paul is very popular with players and coaches alike and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Paul for all that he has done and will continue to do for the sport.”
