Naomi Osaka intending to play the US Open, her management team have reportedly confirmed

Naomi Osaka intends to play in the US Open next month, according to a report from news agency Reuters.

The 2018 champion sparked speculation on Wednesday that she was set to skip the tournament when he name was not on the list on entrants for the Cincinnati Masters.

World number one Ashleigh Barty’s name was also missing, with her later confirming she was going to skip the US Open on safety grounds.

However, Reuters claims they have spoken to Osaka’s ‘management team,’ and they have told them the 22-year-old will play at Flushing Meadows – the scene of her first and most famous Grand Slam title.

Travel issues have plagued the American swing as tennis attempts to get back on its feet following the enforced break while the world deals with the coronavirus pandemic.

The Citi Open cancelled last week citing travel issues as a key reason, and many have questioned if the US Open can go ahead given players will likely have to quarantine for 14 days when returning to Europe from America.

That would mean players being forced to miss the Madrid and Rome Masters before going to the French Open with no competitive practice on clay.

However, since Osaka is based in America anyway, her travel plans would be considerably less complicated.

Naomi Osaka won the 2018 US Open in dramatic fashion, beating an angry and rampaging Serena Williams, who was accused of receiving on-court coaching, in the final.
