Berdych had been working with compatriot Tomas Krupa since 2009 but had been looking for a coach with more experience after his rivals had joined forces with the likes of Boris Becker, Stefan Edberg and Michael Chang.
The world No.7 had approached fellow Czech Ivan Lendl, the eight-time major winner who helped Murray win two Grand Slam titles, but while the former world No.1 was too busy to commit to coaching on the tour, he may have put in a good word for Vallverdu, who left Murray’s coaching team last month.
“Dear fans and friends…my new coaches for next year will be Dani Vallverdy and Azuz Simcich,” Berdych posted on facebook on Tuesday. “Thank you to Tomas Krupa and David Vydra for a great time and fantastic work.”
Vallverdu initially joined Murray’s team five years ago as his hitting partner after the pair became friends as teenagers while training at the Sanchez-Casal academy in Barcelona.
Murray announced at the end of November that he had retained head coach Amelie Mauresmo but had parted company with assistant coach Vallverdu and fitness trainer Jez Green on a mutual basis.
Dear fans my new coach for 2015 will be Danny Vallverdu and Azuz Simcich.Thank you to Tomas Krupa and David Vydra for great time together!
