World number two Murray, who comfortably won his US Open first-round match against Latvia’s Ernests Gulbis, had missed Britain’s crucial Euro/Africa Group One tie with Ukraine in March, which Lloyd’s team lost 4-1.
That defeat sent Britain into a relegation play-off with Poland at the Liverpool Echo Arena on September 18-20, with the home side needing its best players to achieve the victory that will keep them out of Euro/Africa Group Two.
“It is a huge advantage for us to have a player of Andy’s class in the mix and I am delighted to have him in the team,” Lloyd said.
“Everyone is very excited to be playing Davis Cup in Liverpool for the first time. This is a vital tie for us to avoid relegation and the entire squad is committed to keeping Great Britain in Euro/Africa Zone Group One for 2010 and establishing a firm foundation for next year.”
Lloyd named Murray in a six-man squad alongside British number two James Ward, Josh Goodall, Dan Evans and doubles specialist Ross Hutchins.
Merseysider Ken Skupsi was also included, a left-hander who will act as cover for any injuries and help the team prepare for Poland’s world top-10 ranked doubles team of Marcin Matkowski and Mariusz Fyrstenberg.
