Since a disappointing defeat to world number one Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon, the 21-year-old has gone on to capture two Masters Series titles in Cincinnati and Madrid, appeared in his first grand slam final at the US Open and successfully defended his St Petersburg title.

“I feel confident just now but I’m not expecting to play my best tennis this week,” he said. “Obviously it’s been a long few weeks since Madrid, it’s right at the end of the year, I’ve played a lot of matches. I’m a little bit tired.”

He added: “I’m not expecting too much really. I’ve had a great year. For me, it’s been my best year ever. I’ll try to do my best.”

Murray has collected five titles this year and climbed to number four in the world.
