The British number one has been laid low with a virus, which saw him pull out of the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships and last weekend’s Davis Cup defeat by Ukraine.

But Murray travelled to America with coach Miles Maclagan and physio Andy Ireland on Monday and will hope to challenge for a third Masters Series title. He said on his website: “Not 100% yet but feeling better for sure.”

The world number four withdrew ahead of his quarter-final in Dubai after revealing he had been feeling unwell since returning home from Australia at the end of January, while he had also been struggling with an ankle injury.

In Murray’s absence, a weakened British team were beaten 4-1 in their Davis Cup clash in Glasgow.
