The Frenchman was 6-1 4-2 up when his Serbian opponent was forced to withdraw with an ankle injury.

Monfils will next face Richard Gasquet in an all-French semi after the 23-year-old dumped out fourth seed Philipp Petzschner. coming from behind to win 6-7 (2/7) 6-1 6-3.

The other semi will also feature a Frenchman, in the shape of Paul-Henri Mathieu, who beat Andreas Beck 6-2 3-6 6-3.

Mathieu must get past Philipp Kohlschreiber to earn a second consecutive final appearance, after losing to Dmitry Tursunov last year.

The German second seed was a 6-1 6-3 winner over Evgeny Korolev on Friday.
