Monaco sends seed packing

Gonzalez, the only seed in action in Bastad today, won the second set to level the match but was well beaten in the decider as Monaco came through 7-6 (7/4) 3-6 6-1.

Three qualifiers survived the first round, with Guillermo Canas, Potito Starace and Peter Luczak all winning on Tuesday.

Canas defeated last year’s Junior Wimbledon winner Grigor Dimitrov 6-3 7-6 (7/2), Starace saw off France’s Julien Benneteau 7-6 (7/5) 6-3 and Australian Luczak brushed aside Alberto Martin 6-2 6-2.

Austria’s Daniel Koellerer recovered from a poor first set to defeat Steve Darcis 1-6 6-3 6-4 while Kristof Vliegen and Bjorn Phau were the other winners on Tuesday.
