Roger Federer wins Miami Open 2019

Miami Open 2020 preview: Who will reign in the heat?

The Miami Open will return on March 23rd, 2020 and as one of professional tennis’s biggest tournaments, it will be one to look forward to. On the men’s tour, the event is part of the ATP 1000 Masters Series, and is a premier mandatory tournament on the women’s side. Outside of the Grand Slams and ATP Masters, premier mandatory events offer the most ranking points.

The Miami Open has produced some of the most classic tennis matches including, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer’s five set epic in 2005 and Nick Kyrgios’s three-set thriller against Federer in 2017. Last year, this tournament was moved to the Hard Rock Stadium in Florida after being hosted at Crandon Park for 32 years. The Hard Rock Stadium has a seating capacity of 65,326 and is home to the Miami Dolphins NFL team.

Men’s preview:

Novak Djokovic is a six-time champion in Miami and has had a perfect start to the year by winning the Australian Open. He will look to improve on his fourth round exit last year.

Defending champion, Roger Federer will return to Florida in search of his fifth title in Miami. This was the only Masters tournament that the Swiss won in 2019.

Rafael Nadal will once again try to win his first title in Miami. The Spaniard has lost all five finals he has played here, but is playing some of his best tennis in the latter stages of his career.

Women’s preview:

Serena Williams’s most successful tournament is the Miami Open. She’s been victorious on eight occasions and has twice won this event three consecutive times. Williams has not held the winners trophy since 2015, but if she is healthy, she will be a contender for a record ninth crown.

Ashleigh Barty captured this title last year and has a stranglehold on the world number one ranking. The Australian started this year with a title in Adelaide and made the semi-finals of the Australian Open.

Noami Osaka, Karolina Pliskova and Simona Halep are among the top players who will be aiming for their first championship here.
