Matteo Berrettini has forged an impressive career in tennis, despite his horrendous luck with injuries.

Berrettini is a two-time Davis Cup champion, a former Wimbledon finalist, and he reached a career ranking high of World No. 6 in 2022.

The Italian’s career has been marred by injury, and he recently had to withdraw from the Australian Open ahead of the event.

The star returned to action at the Argentina Open, where his tournament was ended at the round of 16 by Vit Kopriva, and now he has provided an update on his conditioning.

Matteo Berrettini says he has ‘several more years’ left of his career

Berrettini is still on the cusp of the top 50 of the ATP Tour rankings despite his sporadic appearances in the sport.

Despite the Italian’s injury issues, Berrettini confirmed that he does not have any plans to retire in the foreseeable future.

“I’m at a different stage of my career than when I was 22-23 years old. I really enjoy playing tennis and I’m trying to enjoy every single moment on the court,” he said in Buenos Aires.

“It’s not easy to always find motivation when you get injured so often, the first tournaments are always tough, but I like to think that I can continue to compete for several more years.”

Berrettini made his debut in 2015 and has now spent over 10 years on the ATP Tour, but he only managed to play 38 times last year.

Why Matteo Berrettini’s current ranking is incredibly impressive

Berrettini has continued to trouble the very best on the ATP Tour and he currently sits at a remarkable World No. 57.

Until the Argentina Open, Berrettini had not played an ATP-level match since reaching the quarter-final of Metz in November.

What is your bold prediction for the 2026 tennis season?

The star’s history at Grand Slams in recent years has been incredibly unfortunate, too, with the Italian missing several of the big events.

His withdrawal from the Australian Open meant that Berrettini has now missed eight majors in the last four years.

With Grand Slams the more lucrative tournaments on the calendar when it comes to ranking, it’s remarkable that the Italian has managed to keep his ranking up.
