Italy reach the Davis Cup final for the third consecutive year

Italy have won the last two Davis Cup events and their appearance in the final marks the first time a nation has reached three consecutive finals at the tournament since 2001.

Australia were the last to achieve the feat, when the likes of Mark Philippoussis and Lleyton Hewitt dominated the tournament.

They did so three times between 1999 and 2001, but they only managed to win the tournament two of those times.

If Italy win the final again they will become the first nation to do the three-peat since the United States between 1969 and 1971.

The likes of Arthur Ashe, Stan Smith, and Bob Lutz competed for the United States during the illustrious period.
