LTA Boss vows to ‘continue supporting’ Emma Raducanu as she adjusts to first season on WTA Tour

Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) chief executive Scott Lloyd will “continue to support” Emma Raducanu as she “finds what works for her” and “navigates the WTA tour.”

19-year-old British sensation Raducanu is enjoying her first full season on the WTA Tour after having risen to prominence after becoming the first qualifier to ever win a Grand Slam at the US Open.

At her first ever Australian Open, she beat 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens in her opening fixture before battling through blistering to lose against Danka Kovinic.

After a challenging few months where she was hampered by numerous injuries, Raducanu has now turned her attention to her maiden clay-court season and next month’s French Open.

Then after the French Open, Raducanu will be hoping for a Wimbledon campaign similar to last years where she reached the fourth round as a qualifier.

Scott Lloyd, chief executive of the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), said “Emma knows, her team knows, that we have always been and will continue to be there to support her.

“It’s going to be in some ways a very tough year, a tough summer for her, in terms of her profile. It’s only a year ago she was sitting her A-Levels.

“Emma needs to try to find what works for her in terms of how she navigates the tour and the travelling, domestic tournaments or internationally.

“It’s about getting into a pattern of where she wants to play in the lead-up to a Grand Slam. She doesn’t know that yet,” he claimed.

“She has a long way to go in terms of starting to find herself and learn what works for her to deliver optimal performances.

“The one thing I will say on that is that you saw her navigate that last summer with incredible maturity given the circumstances.

“She has a very level head on her shoulders. It’s a development period, it’s a learning experience, but she’s in a good place.

“She knows what she wants to try and do. She’s an incredible tennis player. I’m sure she will go on to many more successes in the years to come.”
