Lorenzo Musetti eventually secured his qualification for the ATP Finals after a close-run fight with Felix Auger-Aliassime in the latter stages of the season.

Musetti lost to Novak Djokovic in Athens, which kept him ninth in the race for the ATP Finals, but the Serbian’s withdrawal ensured he would play in Turin.

The Italian will play Carlos Alcaraz, Alex de Minaur, and Taylor Fritz in the Jimmy Connors group at his home tournament.

Musetti previously called his season a ‘nightmare‘, but it has ended on a positive note for the world number nine.

Lorenzo Musetti shares his ‘saddest’ moment of 2025

Musetti struggled to the ATP Finals finish line eventually, but after the Paris Masters, it looked as if his race for the top eight was finished.

The star has named his loss against Lorenzo Sonego at the Masters tournament as his biggest regret of the season.

Speaking to BB Tennis at the ATP Finals, the Italian shared: “The saddest was one I lost first round in Paris in Bercy, and I saw that Felix [Auger-Aliassime] was on fire.

“Honestly, I had that regret not to give that 100% on that match against Sonego first round, so that was probably the biggest regret I had in this season.”

Musetti lost in three sets to his compatriot after taking the lead, which required him to play the ATP 250 tournament in Athens.

This is the second year in a row that Djokovic’s withdrawal has ensured the ninth seed enters the tournament, after Andrey Rublev received the same good news in 2024.

Lorenzo Musetti and Jannik Sinner make Italian tennis history at the ATP Finals

Italian tennis is thriving and Musetti and Sinner will help the nation break new ground at the ATP Finals in Turin.

Musetti and Sinner’s qualification ensures two Italians will play alongside each other for the first time history.

Sinner and Matteo Berrettini both played the tournament in 2021, but Sinner replaced his compatriot due to injury.

The only other Italian star to feature in the ATP Finals is Adriano Panatta, who featured at the 1976 tournament.

Panatta played Arthur Ashe, Ilie Năstase, and Manuel Orantes, but he lost every one of his group games and finished fourth.
