Learner Tien’s incredible debut season on the ATP Tour continued in the last tournament of the year in Metz.

The 19-year-old has cracked the top 50 in his maiden season, thanks to impressive performances at the China Open and the Australian Open.

Tien has made full use of his kind draw in Metz to reach the final of the competition after wins against Vitaliy Sachko, Matteo Berrettini, Moez Echargui, and Ugo Blanchet.

The rising star has broken yet another American tennis record by setting up a Metz final against Cameron Norrie.

Learner Tien reaches another American milestone in Metz

Tien has set yet another tennis record by becoming the very first American man to reach the final of the Metz Open.

The 19-year-old has broken several streaks in tennis since his landmark run to the Australian Open fourth round at the start of this year.

He became the second youngest American, after Pete Sampras, to reach the third and fourth round of the Grand Slam after beating Daniil Medvedev and Corentin Moutet in Melbourne.

The star continued his record-setting by becoming the first American to beat a top three player at the Mexican Open since Andy Roddick in 2001 when he beat Alexander Zverev at the tournament.

Tien also became the youngest American to reach the round of 16 at a Masters tournament for eight years at the Canadian Open, which was last achieved by Frances Tiafoe.

The young American’s latest record in Metz is just another in a long line for the star, who has enjoyed a dream start to ATP Tour life.

He has now been given an incredible opportunity to cap off his dream debut season with his very first ATP title.

With a win at the Metz Open, Tien would be guaranteed a top 30 finish at the end of the season, which would guarantee entry into every ATP 500 tournament in 2026.

Learner Tien and Cameron Norrie’s head-to-head record

Tien and Norrie have been frequent foes on the ATP Tour this season, meeting three times since their debut match in January, so it’s fitting that they will meet one final time in 2025 with a title on the line.

Norrie defeated Tien in their first meeting at the Hong Kong Open in straight sets, in one of Tien’s first tournaments as a full-time member of the tour.

However, Tien got his revenge later on in the year with back-to-back wins in Acapulco and the Shanghai Masters.

Tien beat Norrie by exactly the same scoreline in both matches, racing to a 7-6, 6-3 victory to lead the head-to-head.
