Jannik Sinner has won yet another Masters 1000 title, with this latest one in Rome completing his collection.
He has now claimed all nine trophies at this level, and done so at a rate faster than any player in the sport’s history.
What he continues to accomplish is truly extraordinary, but for some, it only highlights the weakness of the rest of the ATP Tour.
Nobody even comes close to Sinner, other than his great rival. But, with Carlos Alcaraz ruled out with injury, the gulf between the Italian and the rest of the chasing pack is frightening.
That is likely why Laura Robson, whilst impressed with Sinner, has outlined her wish for men’s tennis after yet another title for the 24-year-old.
Laura Robson outlines her hope for men’s tennis after Jannik Sinner wins again
Discussing his latest triumph live on Sky Sports just after Sinner had lifted the trophy, she began by praising the four-time major champion.
“There’s so few players who can play this amount of matches without losing concentration, without getting injured,” she remarked.
Where does Jannik Sinner rank among the all-time greats after winning the Italian Open? 🤔
Robson then added: “Of course, we can keep talking about the amount of work that’s done in the gym and all the physio to be ready for this, but I think also it’s the mentality that he has.
“He doesn’t have dips. He might get frustrated for a game or two, but I can count on one hand the amount of points this year that he’s probably, like, thrown away, when you just kind of dump the ball into the net and move on to the next one. There’s none of that. There’s no unforced errors.
“So, it’s pretty special to watch. Probably not to play against.”
Then, asked what impact Alcaraz’s absence is having on the current state of the ATP Tour, Robson admitted: “He’s the only one that can challenge him right now. I wish there was a bigger group, but at the moment, it’s Carlos and Jannik versus everyone else.

“And so, when one of them is not healthy, you suddenly feel the effects of that across the draw, because, you know, you’re pretty much pencilling Jannik in at the moment to the final, and then, when he does get there, because it does feel inevitable, when he does get there, you just feel like the others don’t have the confidence to challenge him.
“So, yeah, it’s a tough ask for everyone else who is not Carlos Alcaraz.”
Alcaraz actually congratulated Sinner on social media, with Novak Djokovic also reacting after seeing yet another record of his broken.
Tim Henman praises Jannik Sinner’s historic achievement in Rome
Whilst Robson was full of praise, but also wary about what yet another title for Sinner does for men’s tennis, Tim Henman was nothing but complimentary.
After all, discussing the Italian’s latest achievement, completing the Golden Masters in Rome, he could only laud the world number one.
Do you think Jannik Sinner could really win all 9 Masters 1000 events in 2026?
Also speaking on Sky Sports, the pundit admitted: “It’s very, very special, and I think we touched on it before this match when you reflect on the greats of the game and this era that he is following with Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic.
“Djokovic has been able to accomplish it, which is an incredible feat, and, you know, Federer, and Nadal, as great as they were, they were not able to achieve that.
“And, yeah, just emphasises, you know, how good, how complete he is, and at the age of the 24, he’s gonna go on and win a lot more of these things, that is for sure.”
