Yesterday saw Jannik Sinner break yet another record, surpassing Novak Djokovic as the youngest man to complete the Golden Masters.
It marked the culmination of a sensational run of form this year, which has seen him capture every Masters 1000 title on offer in 2026, thus fulfilling his collection.
Many might expect that the shattering of another of his records would leave the 24-time Grand Slam champion somewhat frustrated, but his reaction on social media tells a different story.
Similarly, whilst Carlos Alcaraz is injured and forced to watch from the sidelines, he still took time to congratulate his great rival, who has won everything available with minimal fuss in his absence.
Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz react to Jannik Sinner’s Italian Open title
It was Novak Djokovic who was first to celebrate Jannik Sinner’s stunning feat, initially writing on Instagram: “Congratulazioni Jannik, impressionante!”
He then followed that up by remarking on the Golden Masters, which beforehand only he had ever managed before. The Serbian added: “Welcome to the exclusive club, Jannik”.
Where does Jannik Sinner rank among the all-time greats after winning the Italian Open? 🤔
Carlos Alcaraz would follow that up with a message of congratulations of his own, stating: ”Congratulations for completing the Golden Masters! You deserved it!”
The Spaniard will be raring to return to action as soon as possible, to hopefully provide some much-needed resistance to the world number one’s overwhelming dominance.
And, given his youth, perhaps even snatch this record from Sinner too.
When can Carlos Alcaraz complete the Golden Masters?
Rather ironically, there is still a chance that Alcaraz could complete his own Golden Masters too this season.
And, if he is desperate to become the youngest to ever do it, time is ticking.
Having just turned 23, there are just two attempts left before Alcaraz is set to grow older than Sinner was when he won the Italian Open last night.
Do you think Jannik Sinner could really win all 9 Masters 1000 events in 2026?
To do it, he must now mount a similar win streak to the one that his great rival is enjoying, winning the Canadian Open, Shanghai Masters and Paris Masters, the three that remain absent from his trophy cabinet.
Given that he has never made it past the quarterfinals in any of these events and often struggled towards the end of past seasons, it does seem unlikely.
Alas, Alcaraz has the rest of this campaign and next season to break Sinner’s freshly acquired record.
