Nick Kyrgios ‘excited’ & Stefanos Tsitsipas ‘thrilled’ ahead of ‘amazing’ Wimbledon clash

One of the headline matches of the earlier Wimbledon rounds gets underway on Court No. 1 Saturday afternoon as Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nick Kyrgios are both raring to go in their third round encounter.

After Kyrgios battled through a tough and tense first round battle with British talent Paul Jubb, he was practically flawless in downing Queen’s finalist Filip Krajinovic in straight sets on Wednesday.

Meanwhile Tsitsipas has progressed quite straightforwardly, dropping a single set in his opening match before breezing past Jordan Thompson in the second round in straight sets.

The Greek said after that win of taking on Kyrgios at Wimbledon: “His game is good for the grass.

“I am definitely thrilled to be facing him.

“Although he has been a little controversial in the past, I think he’s playing good tennis.

“Hopefully I can stay there and do something great, have a great competitive match against him.”

Earlier, Kyrgios gave his thoughts on the match to come, including his expectations of playing on a show court.

He said: “I’m excited.

“I feel like we both earned the right [to play on Centre or Court No. 1]

“We’re two of the biggest stars in the sport.

“Hopefully if we both bring our best tennis, it’s going to be amazing to watch.”

The pair have met three times competitively, with Kyrgios leading the head-to-head 2-1.

Their most recent battle came less than three weeks ago on the grass of Halle.

Kyrgios came through that day in three entertaining sets to reach the quarter-finals of the German ATP 250 event.
