Seeded for the first time at an ATP tournament, Kyrgios appeared fatigued as he fell 7-6(4) 7-6(3) to fellow Australian Marinko Matosevic at the Malaysian Open.

It has been a breakthrough year for Kyrgios, who started the year at world No.182, has climbed to the brink of the top 50 after reaching the quarter-finals at Wimbledon and the third round at the US Open.

However, the 19-year-old, who had to withdraw from the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati with bone stress in his left arm, has decided to call time on his season and head home in order to rest and recuperate ahead of the Australian hard-court swing in January.

"I've pulled out of the other tournaments because I'm emotionally spent, I'm a bit gone and burnt out,” Kyrgios told the Sydney Morning Herald. "I can't wait for the break, I just want to sit back and take a break from everything so I don't have to worry … relax and enjoy life a little bit. When I've been home it has been full on. It's been pretty taxing on and off the court."

“Looking forward to heading back home to rest,” Kyrgios posted on his Twitter feed. “Get healthy, and get prepared for a big 2015.”
