‘I’m sad about it’ – Barbora Krejcikova accuses WTA rival of ‘humiliating’ her
French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova has accused Garbine Muguruza of ‘humiliating’ her after their clash at the net at the US Open.
The pair met in the US Open fourth round and the Czech called a controversial medical time out when 5-6 down in the second set.
She was already a set up, and after a nine minute delay she came back and settled the match with the Spaniard clearly struggling to regain her rhythm.
Krejcikova genuinely looked unwell, and she needed to be helped off court after the match, but Muguruza told her she was “so unprofessional” at the net following the final point.
“I just know what [Muguruza] told me at the net,” Krejcikova said. “I don’t know what was happening after.
“I would say it was pretty negative, but that’s the way it is. I just didn’t expect that I’m going to be accused like this.
“I just felt that I got really humiliated by a Grand Slam champion, which I’ve never seen. It’s tough. I’m sad about it.”
Muguruza was clearly angry after the incident, and she didn’t appear to have calmed down after the match when asked either.
“Listen, I don’t really want to talk about this,” she said when asked. “I’ll let you guys judge what you think about this.
“Well, I think, between players, you know a little bit how to behave in certain moments and, yeah, I wasn’t very happy at the end of the match.”
