Top seed Juan Martin del Potro will meet Ernests Gulbis, a 6-4 6-7 (5/7) 6-1 winner against Spain’s Marcel Granollers, in the second round.

Eighth seed Juan Monaco overcame Victor Hanescu 6-3 6-4, while Gilles Muller, John Isner, Bobby Reynolds, Yen-Hsun Lu and Marc Gicquel also made it through to the next round.
