Keothavong scoops top player award

Anne Keothavong is celebrating being named the LTAs 2008 Female Player of the Year.

The 25-year-old was recognised in the governing body’s end-of-season honours list along with fellow high-profile Brits Andy Murray and Laura Robson.

Keothavong has enjoyed a breakthrough year during 2008, rising around 60 positions in the WTA singles rankings to her current career-high listing of No.60.

The Londoner won four ITF titles during the last 12 months in Italy, Lebanon, Britain and Poland won a main draw match at Wimbledon for the first time in her career and made the third round of the US Open where she toppled Francesca Schiavone.

This is my first ever LTA award and its nice to be recognised for my achievements, said Keothavong, who is coached by the LTAs Nigel Sears and Claire Curran.

Its been a great year for me but I want next year to be even better.

Keothavong is busy preparing for her 2009 season and will leave the UK for Australia on Boxing Day.
